Chef Al Potyondy-Smith of Bryant Lake Bowl in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis strives to offer anything but the expected bowling alley fare, demonstrating that a scratch kitchen can be found in the least likely place. In addition to offering hearty home cooked meals while you bowl, Al seeks to incorporate as many local and sustainably-grown ingredients into her menu as possible.
Al works hard to show her customers that food can be delicious, healthy, and easy and that everyone can support and sustain a local economy - even a bowling alley. After more than ten years with the restaurant, she is very proud that Bryant Lake Bowl continues to move toward making the restaurant as sustainable and earth friendly as possible. Her ongoing efforts to drive local business, produce less waste, and offer affordable, healthy, and environmentally conscious ingredients have truly placed this casual dining establishment in a class all its own.
Given Al's enthusiasm around the growing awareness of sustainable living and preservation of the Earth, she continues to develop direct relationships with farmers like Audrey Arner and Richard Handeen of Moonstone Farms. Located in Montevideo on the Western Minnesota Prairie, Moonstone has provided Bryant Lake Bowl with beef products free of pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, and genetic engineering for several years. Moonstone Farm is a member of the Minnesota Farmers Union and is Food Alliance certified, proving their commitment to land stewardship, contented livestock, clean water, and wholesome healthy food. Additionally, Audrey and Richard are fun loving folks, making social change accessible and delicious. They work passionately to educate customers, business owners, and politicians alike through commitment to excellence and good living.
